Painted rocks for the 4th of July!!

With found rocks and only 3 colors, doodle away and create quick easy decorations for Independence Day!!  Fun for kids too!

For good results, make sure to to wait for the first paint color to dry.  I also used Martha Stewart's high gloss finish for extra shine and protection.

Spring Rock Critters

Yeah! Spring is here and out come all the critters, so thought I would add some of my own to the garden.

From a pile of rocks on the side of my house, I selected a few rocks that had good shapes for my critters about the size of potatoes. A couple of girly ladybugs and a quirky caterpillar were the my bugs of choice.
I first cleaned the rocks and let them dry, and painted the rocks with two coats of paint.
I really like Martha Stewart's brand of multi-surface paint. The colors are brilliant and the high gloss gives projects a nice finish.

I then painted the face, also with two coats of paint.

T-shirt bracelets

My niece, Alysia, who is nine, came over this weekend to hang out for a while. I thought I would show her how to make some easy t-shirt bracelets she could make for herself and her friends.
There are a lot of variations on these bracelets, but this is super easy if you know how to braid.
All you need is some old clean t-shirts, scissors, and a safety pin. If you want to add embellishments, like flowers, you would also need needle and thread, and whatever you want to add, like felt for the flowers.  First we cut three strips of t-shirt about a foot in length each. Alysia used two red strips and one brown strip.

Next, we made little holes or slits on one end of each of the strips to thread the other ends through for when we finished braiding. Then, we used a safety pin to pin the holey end to our sneakers. We braided like we would our hair.

The end of the braids was then threaded through the holes we made, and then into a knot.  We tried it out by putting it on her wrist then doubled it up.

Here's the cute model:

Alysia wanted to add something else, so we cut out felt flowers, and sewed them on with needle and thread. We made the center of the flower with thread as we attached it to the bracelet.

Ta da!!!

Elmo T-shirt

A couple of weeks ago I stopped at a garage sale and bought a bunch of crafty stuff. Among the items I bought from this little old lady who was selling her mobile home, was a large bag full of felt.

My daughter loves Elmo, so I took one of her old onesies, cut out the shapes for Elmo's face and hand stitched them on the shirt. I think she liked it...

Hmmmm... what else can I do with the felt???!!!???!!
