Food

You are here because you are in San Diego and want good drink and good food so read on...

San Diego, in the last 5-10 years has provided the hungry and thirsty with some pretty satisfying meals.  My favorite picks right now and are in the the areas of Kensington, Normal Heights, Hillcrest, North Park and South Park.  These restaurants are on this page because they fill my requirements...
  1.  Food is awesome
  2. Drinks and/or beer are just as awesome as the food
  3. Atmosphere is unique or fun or interesting or inviting or all of these
  4.  Not a chain or tourist place and not pretentious
  5. I can be welcomed with a baby/toddler/kid, but kid not required
Hope you will try one and tell me what YOU think.

Bleu Boheme (French, brunch, lunch, happy hour, dinner)$$$ - I love this restaurant because of their mussels and frits along with large selection of French wine.  I have tried a good portion of the menu items and have not yet been disappointed. I have also tried the brunch... also scrumptious. I usually sit outside in the front patio and choose a table on the end to corral my daughter and tie the dog to the railing (they put out a bowl of water for your dog).  You are in San Diego, but you can dream you are somewhere in Europe.

El Comal (Authentic Mexican, breakfast, lunch, happy hour, dinner)$$ - I love this restaurant because here I can get REAL homemade Mexican food,  a choice of Mexican beers, and a REAL margarita. The tortillas are made fresh to order and the albondigas soup is so satisfying. If you have ever been to Mexico, many of the restaurants use what they have for the decor, and that is what it feels like here, like you are in Mexico, authentic.

Cantina Mayahuel (Authentic Mexican, appetizers, dinner)$ to $$- I love this place because of the chips and guacamole, fish tacos, mole, and of course the tequila and margaritas. Here you feel like you walked into a cantina somewhere in old Mexico. It's not exactly kid friendly, since they don't have high chairs or crayons, but if you sit outside on the patio with a stroller for the little one or just a chair, it will do and the staff if fine with that.

Brazen BBQ(Barbeque, Southern, lunch, happy hour, dinner)$$- I love this place because of the ribs, mac 'n cheese, and sweet potato fries.  Not to mention the pulled pork and the collard greens too. Yum. The patio is nice to watch the city go by, and inside is casual, has high chairs, and it is hard to bother others with a toddler.
